A tribute to the French School of music with a sampling of Saint-Saën’s romanticism, Fauré’s aesthetics, and Ravel’s innovative impressionism, all of which are rooted in the French modules of classic balance, elegance, and reverence for the glories of the past. The Saint-Saëns cello concerto is a melodic manifesto of romance framed in strict structure but unleashed by the passion of the cello. Fauré’s Elégie embodies a compositional style that bridges all the transitions in developing the French style. Ravel pay homage to the great forefather of French music Couperin with his orchestral suite Le Tombeau de Couperin, and invokes the sensual world of the shepherds and nymphs in Daphnis et Chloé. Star concertmaster-turned conductor, Philippe Aïche leads the SZS in this extravaganza of senses through the prism of French music.
